The Great Victor Herbert

September 4, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

THE GREAT VICTOR HERBERT
1939, 91 min
Allen Jones, Mary Martin, Susanna Foster and Walter Connolly as Victor Herbert

Truly, not a biography of Victor Herbert but a story based around his famous music. Martin (in her film debut) marries a famous but irresponsible singer. He leads her to stardom and then deserts her. Years Later, their daughter appears in the operetta they made famous. Nominated for best sound recording and best score, featuring some of Herbert’s best: “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life”, “Toyland”, “Falling In Love With Someone” and many more.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film begins at 7:30 p.m.

Movie Time's Fall Schedule: A Patron's Special Request

For over 26 years I have been sharing my 16mm films with patrons of the Charles Allis Art Museum. It has become something very special for me, for over the years I have met many people, some who have become personal friends. Some have followed me from the days when I was showing films at the PAC in downtown Milwaukee and the Gallery Cinema in Bayview. Some have joined my personal film society, “The FOOFS” and some have introduced me to new ventures in my life. So, it is with great pleasure that I will be showing films personally chosen by you, the audience rather than a series selected by me. So, sit back and enjoy a film chosen by one of you. Always, my best. ~ Dale
