Piñata Party with Catherine Martin
February 7, 2026 | 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
We’ve all taken a swing at a piñata at a party — but have you ever wondered why?
Join artist Catherine Martin for a hands-on workshop exploring the history and cultural significance of piñatas. Catherine will share her approach to piñatas as an art form and guide participants through the process of creating their own.
Participants will leave with a handmade piñata and a deeper appreciation for the cultural traditions and artistic expression behind this festive form.
No experience necessary. All materials provided.
About the Artist:Catherine Martin is a metalsmith and sculptor whose work draws from Mexican cultural and spiritual traditions to examine femininity, identity, and devotion. Their practice honors resilience and ancestral presence through contemporary interpretations of sacred imagery and found materials. Martin is one of the featured artists in Bated Breath: Neglected Possessions, a multimedia exhibition at the Charles Allis Art Museum that explores reinvention, transformation, and the quiet beauty found in overlooked objects.
