Featuring Leah Schlageter • Catherine Martin • Sea Green
November 6, 2025 – January 24, 2026
Bated Breath: Neglected Possessions invites visitors into a world where forgotten objects and discarded materials become catalysts for imagination. Through multimedia works by Leah Schlageter, Catherine Martin, and Sea Green, this exhibition explores resilience, reinvention, and the quiet beauty found in things often overlooked.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Allis Home, these works—wire corsets, smoking caterpillars, miniature rooms, metal milinillos, and more—open a dialogue between what we cherish and what we discard. In this shared space, the artists transform remnants of the past into portals for potential futures.
Wander the mansion’s halls and encounter pieces that ask you to pause, exhale, and reconsider the meaning held within everyday objects. Bated Breath is a meditation on possibility, transformation, and the art of creating something meaningful from what remains.
About the Artists

- Leah Schlageter - Working across photography, painting, and miniatures, Leah explores the “perfect malfunction”—the moment when disruption sparks meaning. Her pieces investigate cycles of decay, renewal, and emotional complexity.
- Catherine Martin - A metalsmith and sculptor, Catherine draws from Mexican cultural and spiritual traditions to examine femininity, identity, and devotion. Her work honors resilience and ancestral presence through contemporary interpretations of sacred imagery.
- Sea Green - Sea creates ornate yet gritty found-object sculptures and illustrations shaped by queer, working-class life under late-stage capitalism. Their work transforms discarded materials into bold reflections on survival and visibility.
