Preserving the Future: A Celebration of Ownership and Opportunity

May 27, 2026 | 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Join the Charles Allis Art Museum for an intimate evening celebrating a defining milestone in the museum’s history.

Following an 18-month period of transformation, the museum has officially acquired its historic home from Milwaukee County — securing its future as an independent, community-centered space for art, culture, and connection. This special Preservation Month gathering will bring together civic leaders, donors, community partners, artists, and supporters to recognize this important achievement and explore the opportunities ahead for one of Milwaukee’s historic cultural institutions.

Guests will enjoy:

  • Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments
  • Live entertainment
  • A curated open house experience throughout the museum
  • Exhibition on view - Inequivalent Exchange: 250 Years of American Museum Practice
    • This timely exhibition examines the evolution of museum practices in America through themes of ownership, access, preservation, and responsibility. As the Charles Allis Art Museum enters a new era of independent stewardship, the exhibition offers meaningful context for the work ahead and the role museums play in shaping cultural narratives.
  • Self-guided “Ownership & Opportunity” tours highlighting the museum’s future vision.
