Open Mic Night: Here We Stand

November 4, 2022 | 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Open Mic Night: Here We Stand

Join us Friday, Nov. 4 to listen to Milwaukee Poet Laureate Mario Willis and local poet Terimarie Degree perform, before an open mic hour for the community to take the floor.

This event has been organized as part of our community programming series for the exhibition "Ghosts of Segregation: America's continuing struggle" by documentary photographer Rich Frishman. "Ghosts of Segregation" explores the hidden histories of slavery, segregation and racism hidden in America's natural and architectural landscape. It also centers moments of Black resilience and triumph.

Along with the exhibit the Charles Allis museum has initiated an "Invitation to Care."  The Charles Allis recognizes that not all communities have the privilege to turn away from these hurtful images. As an educational institution it is our responsibility to have these discussions on race, inclusion, and perseverance in our community. We invite you to raise your voice and share your experiences this Friday, Nov. 4 at our community open mic night: Here We Stand.

Explore history, hurt and healing in our community through spoken word, music and whatever you bring to the table.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Admission is free. A cash bar will be available.

"Ghosts of Segregation" is on view now through Dec. 4.
