Upcoming Events

The Charles Allis Art Museum invites artists to submit new or existing work for newly designated gallery spaces inside the mansion now through August 12, 2022. These spaces will have a "soft opening" at Charles Allis during the opening reception of our October 27th sculpture exhibition at Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. 

While artistic quality is very important, works will be reviewed for durability, safety and appropriateness to the site. See below for gallery space information and criteria.

The Lift

THE LIFT is an immersive, kinetic, exhibition space located in the Museum's elevator. Artists are invited to reimagine the elevator space as it bridges the Museum's floors and galleries together for the general public's experience. Example installations could manifest as, but are not limited to: a vinyl wall wrap with a printed design or pattern, soft sculpture draping from the walls of the elevator, or an installation that engage the human senses through sound, smell, and light.

Proposed projects may engage topics of dining, domesticity, place-making, and Allis’ history, but are not required to be explored for a successful proposal. Curatorial emphasis will be put on proposals that experiment with space, materials, artistic inquiry, and/or contemporary critical discourse. Artists selected to exhibit will work directly with our Collections and Curatorial staff to ensure all appropriate measures are taken to ensure the safety of the elevator.

Passage End Gallery

PASSAGE  END GALLERY is a narrow, tunnel-like exhibition space nestled into the Mansion's original car garage entryway. The entrance, often used by Sarah Allis, was sealed in 1997 during the construction of the Great Hall, a newer architectural addition to the mansion for hosting events, exhibitions, and Museum programs. 

Proposed projects may engage topics of dining, domesticity, place-making, and Allis’ history, but are not required to be explored for a successful proposal. Curatorial emphasis will be put on proposals that experiment with space, materials, artistic inquiry, and/or contemporary critical discourse. Painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, audio/sound art, video, installation, and photography proposals are welcome.

The Table

The Table is a historical, Queen Anne-styled dining room table originally owned by Charles and Sarah Allis. Artists and artist collectives are invited to submit a proposal for installation and sculpture-based work that can exist on the surface of the Allis’s dining room table. Proposed projects may engage topics of dining, domesticity, place-making, and Allis’ history, but are not required to be explored for a successful proposal. Curatorial emphasis will be put on proposals that experiment with space, materials, artistic inquiry, and/or contemporary critical discourse. Artists selected to exhibit will work directly with our Collections Manager to ensure all appropriate measures are taken to ensure the safety of the object. Exhibitions will rotate every 3 months and proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
