What's on at the Allis?
Strike at Allis Chalmers and Other Wisconsin Stories | by John Fleissner
On View through October 25
This exhibition explores the struggle of the Allis-Chalmers workers in their heroic strike for union security and higher wages at the West Allis plant in the 1940s. Their strike was met with repression, water cannons, and armored vehicles. The union's militant story is told through a large scale woodcut, historical photos, film and ephemera, and stories other Wisconsin working class history, social movements, and folk culture, depicting a history and art practice for the many.
Inherited Threads: In Transit | by Christina Lopez-Prado
On view through November 22
Artist Christina Lopez-Prado transforms The Lift at the Charles Allis Art Museum into a community vessel carrying the stories and memories that connect us all across time and space. Cyanotype prints and family heirloom textiles, tell the personal histories of our community. The exhibition will take place in The Lift Gallery, an immersive, kinetic exhibition space located in the Museum's elevator.
