Based on Margaret Landon’s novel based on the real-life Anna Leonowen (because it is a novel, Anna’s last name was changed in the book and film). The film chronicles the experience of a British governess in 19th century Siam and her battle of wits with a strong willed King. Sumptuous production values with beautiful cinematography. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay and winning for Best Black/White Cinematography and Best Interior Decoration.
